Forgotten Facades
On November 27th and 28th, 2023, an Art Exhibition titled ‘Forgotten Facades: A Tale of an Urban Transformation’ was hosted at the Chandra Man Singh Maskey Gallery, NAFA. The showcased artworks resulted from the collaborative project ‘Urban Transformation and Placemaking: Fostering Learning from South Asia and Germany’ (2020-23), a partnership between Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, and the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, facilitated by Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Mr. Naradmani Hartamchali, Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, and Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of Kathmandu University’s School of Education. The curation of the exhibition was expertly handled by Mr. Sujan Dangol and Mr. Rupesh Man Singh. A total of 33 artists participated in this showcase, presenting their unique perspectives on urban transformation.
Over the course of two days, the exhibition drew more than 150 visitors, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere. The event not only celebrated artistic expression but also served as a platform for dialogue and learning, fostering a cross-cultural exchange of ideas and experiences. The success of the exhibition was evidence of the power of art in conveying stories of urban transformation, creating connections between diverse communities and fostering a deeper understanding of the shared human experience.
